What’s Up Gais?

Made KA’s Colek today coz I have been wanting to try what it tastes like. Not something that I would eat again in a hurry. It’s all right lah.. it’s just fried stuff that one dips into a rather sweet spicy sauce. I prefer my colek to be of the fruit kind.

I added chicken fillets that I breaded myself to the mix that Kha*rul Am*ng had suggested so that not everything was processed on that plate… OMG. The Lollo Bionda was the saving grace ~ added colour AND fibre 😅

The final product with the sauce:

I think the kepok keping was the best part! 💃🏻

Marhaban Ya Ramadhan

First day of Ramadhan 1444H today. Didn’t do much, just a simple iftar at home with the usual dishes that we usually eat for dinner… nothing extra, except for the chemil-chemilan for the actual breaking of fast. The helper would make Arabic luqaimat (fried dough balls drenched in syrup), sambosa, vegetable spring rolls, Indonesian bakwan or tauhu isi. (NOT all at one time, just one or two max per iftar.)

That’s the adat in this house, we break our fast with dates and these “appetisers” then we adjourn for Maghrib solah. We only have a full, proper meal (dinner) after we have done Maghrib. Nothing extra, just rice/bread with 2-3 dishes as we usually eat outside of Ramadhan. Baaas…

After the meal, Wes likes to have his cuppa char brewed soni dharti-style, by his wife’s own hand… and after that off he goes to taraweeh at the venue of his choice for the day ~ it could be Al-Kha*dem, the masjid near our house or even at home with me. These days he doesn’t even ask for moreh after he returns from his taraweeh. Back in the day, we would serve him whatever dessert I made or if there is none, it would be fruit and the leftover chemilan from iftar.

Tomahawk Sunday

We were invited to lunch at Dad’s and Auntie V’s today. Pre-Ramadhan 1444H gathering, katanya. The steaks were Angus rib-eyes and we had a wagyu tomahawk as well. Steaks were not grilled as well as we are used to by the Maestro Griller aka Wes Alasdair Coen, so some of us ended up going back to the grill to cook the meat some more.

All in all, sedaplah. Auntie V served garlic bread, salad (I wish she would not drown her salads in that Japanese roasted sesame dressing she favours so much!) and chicken and mushroom soup as well. I would have like the soup not to be as “textured” as it was (perhaps that’s the way they like theirs 🤷🏻‍♀️ *shrug*) but it was still sedap, Alhamdulillah.

Wes and Joe left early because Joe was restless yet sleepy. Wes always looks for excuses to leave family gatherings at Dad’s early anyhoos… I have never complained nor make a big fuss about it and I am not about to start now. Biarlah, whatever he is comfortable with. At least Wes comes and attends fambam gatherings, unlike my cousin Ally’s husband, Adolph.. that bangang Americaine. Bleddy rude, never bothers to even pretend to be part of this family.

I also told Dad about AH Coen and about the lies and fitan he is spreading about me and Wes. I told Dad to never give that cvnt the time of day anymore. AH has been known to toady up to my Dad… now I am seeing the reason why. Cvnt. He had mentioned to Wes that he was going to call my Dad to inform him of how Wes has been “living off me”. My Dad was Malaysia’s ‘M’ for bleddy yonks kot… takkan dia tak tau? Funtartz bodo punya AH. Tak perlu jadi ‘M’ pun to know wot’s wot. Where else would Wes get money to live on? Jatuh daripada langit ke, AH cheebuy?

Daebak!

We had home-cooked Korean Bulgogi complete with banchan this evening:

The meat was Blackmore Wagyu MB5. Not the fattiest cut, but I like it because there is more flavour and “bite” to it.

For the banchan I made stir-fried fishcake (Eomuk Bokkeum), beansprouts (sukjunamul-muchim) and spinach (sigeumchi-namul). Added on kimchi and radish that I bought as well. Tried making the Seafood and Green Onion Pajeon too but failed miserably. Was just too stodgy and wouldn’t crisp up. 😬 We shall try again next time, انشاءالله

Bolehhhhlah buat ghaso², rather than having to spend RM1,500 at a restaurant for the 1.5kg of beef I served, the meat alone just cost me RM150 (Wagyu at that!) At Q*ngH*Gu, it’s RM 312 for 600g… bayangkanlah yang dinging
